Weird and Interesting Series

For as long as i feel interested in weird stuff i will be posting any and every weird or bordering on the strange stuff here. From news that made headlines to the more obscure shit you wish you heard, everything will make it on here. For today here is a list of some strange or funny or just plain eye popping info i found on Stunningstuff..

1. Barbie's full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts... [ people barbie has a surname; hmm i wander who her grand kids are]

2. American Airlines saved $40,000 in 1987 by eliminating one olive from each salad in first class. [ what i want to know is if it costs AA 40k per extra olive per trip or for the entire year of 87... didn't know olives cost so damn much ]

3. 30% of Chinese adults live with their parents. [ i must be Chinese then]

4. 200 million people in China live on less than $1 a day.

5. There are 100 million internet users in China. Some of the sites they can't access are BBC news, Amnesty International and Dalailama.com.

6. In 2006, there were 398 million mobile (or cell) phones in China [ interesting side note; there are more mobile phones in mainland china than there are Americans...err... including all the illegals ;) ]

7. China is the source of 70% of the worlds pirated goods. [ the other 30% come from Somalia :) ]

8. 20% of the world's population lives in China.

9. People spend about two weeks of their lives at traffic lights!

10. Left handed people live slightly shorter lives than right handed people. [ that would explain a lot of things... like why parents beat their kids into righties over here ]

I like the lighting in this pic and the way the frontman( kayaano) of the band(unknown) stands out in the pic whiles crowd surfing. I find it ' interesting' as they also like to call photos that grab you and seize and want to suck your life force out of you, over there at flickr. This isnt one of them though but i still like that it grabs me at least :)

Ghana Elections 2008: Round two

After a second round of voting the results are in.
At about 3pm this afternoon the chairman of the Electoral Commission in Ghana announced that the NDC led after the second but were not the clear winners. I don't have the actual figures but the difference between the two major political parties in the country was about 23,000 votes in favour of the NDC. Out of 230 constituencies 229 had come in with one still yet undeclared ( they had not voted yet and they will this Friday). Anyway, this constituency has 53,000 potential votes that could swing this thing anyway. But the way i see the NDC will win this election after the votes from the last constituency come in ( assuming all or 80% the 53,000 votes dont magically go to the NPP).

Personally i dont give a damn about who wins so long as i can still wake up at 9am in the morning and walk around without any restrictions at night.

So may the best party win... which practically means the NDC

PS: I AM COMPLETELY UNBIASED ABOUT MY VIEWS, I HAVE NO PARTY AFFILIATIONS AND DIDN'T VOTE ( IRRESPONSIBLY I MIGHT ADD ;)

Over 1.5 million views...and still counting

I made a couple of vids a while back when i was staying with my auntie at baatsonaa in accra. The number of hits they've racked up has surprised me to an extent but not too much :) . The sixth pence none the richer vid i knew would get some attention ( sex or implied sexuality sells, period). It turns out i was right. 1.5million + views (combined for all three vids) later i have decided to blog about it

INTERESTING FACT : The bulk of my viewers for the 'kiss me' video are from Saudi Arabia; of all places. They must love kissing over there. Saudi , hmm who would have ever thought? I hope all those who viewed are still alive ... in a country where you get your hand cut off for stealing a fucking orange, god knows what you'll endure when you are caught watching soft obscenities on an infidel website...

Smoke city is smoking hot

I have yet to listen to the whole album but the first track on it gives a hint ( i hope ) as to how good the entire album is. In most cases record labels structure the tracks on albums in a certain way that the first two or three tracks are hot and the rest are not...But i digress.

The first time i heard this song was on Michel Gondry's ad for a jeans company. He didn't do a shabby at all work in seamlessly weaving the intricate rhythms and melodies of the song into his visual style.

SIDE NOTE: I fucking love Gondry's work.

A lot of other bands have had their names catapulted into stardom after one track, one wonders why that isnt the case with smoke city. Casing point portishead and the whole rave about glorybox ( truth be told i prefer tricky's sample of issac hayes' tune to make 'Hell is around the corner'...Apart from the fact that the track is also graced by the sumptiously seductive voice of Martina Topley Bird)
